Mouse in the House

Yesterday Cinda saw a mouse in the kitchen. Then John saw a mouse in the kitchen. John lay in wait with a shoe (tennis) to slay the vermin but it did not reappear.

Today, John saw the mouse in the living room just as it moved from the rocking horse to a birthday balloon. Armed with a dress shoe this time, John hid by the piano. The mouse was actually playing with the balloon trying to pull it behind the piano. It was biting the tied end of the balloon and pulling it between an arrangement of dried flowers and the piano. Sometimes the balloon would spring from the mouse's grasp and snap forward--no good line of sight for the dress shoe.

Presently, the mouse disappeared under/behind the piano. John then decided to scare it into the open by playing a few bars of "Trust and Obey" with his left hand while remaining poised with the dress shoe. At this point the mouse ran behind John and across his toes (at least that is what it felt like).

Defeated, John joined Cinda (who was standing on the countertop) and Sarah in the kitchen where we heard another mouse in the drawer of the stove. At this point, Sarah became very vocal about mice and started shouting "mouse" and "bye-bye" which was exactly what what we hoped to achieve.

We set a trap in the stove drawer where we caught a mouse in about 5 minutes. Flush with this success we set a trap by the piano. After a few minutes John decided that it might be best to point out the trap to Sarah to keep her from springing it herself. We found that this trap had also caught a mouse. Cheerios and peanut butter were the bait in case anyone was wondering.

The house feels more livable now but we're sure that these are not the last mice we'll see. We just hope that we can dispatch of them as quickly as today's unfortunates.
